Causes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. SQL Native client provider might be corrupted.<\/li>\n
  2. This error seems to be linked to missing or incorrect registry\u00a0entries. Uninstall everything related to SQL that might be on your computer.<\/li>\n
  3. Due to improper SQL uninstallations, your registry is not clean and might be corrupted.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Workaround 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Before installing SQL Server<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Uninstall\u00a0“Microsoft SQL Server Native Client” component from control panel.<\/li>\n
    2. Rename the files sqlncli.dll and sqlnclir.rll if they present in path C:\\Windows\\System32<\/li>\n
    3. Later run the SQL Server 2005 setup under an administrator account again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Workaround <\/strong>2:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      When you are at the point of the failure, do not cancel the installation,<\/p>\n

      Run this registry SqlNativeClientRegistryConfiguration.reg<\/p>\n

      Download: SqlNativeClientRegistryConfiguration<\/a><\/p>\n

      Workaround<\/strong>3<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Launch Regedit as an administrator. In your Start Search field, type\u00a0r<\/strong>egedit.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Installer\\\u00a0UserData\\S-1-5-18\\Components.<\/p>\n

      Right-click on\u00a0\u00a0and select “Permissions”<\/p>\n

      In the “Permissions for Components” screen that comes up, click the\u00a0Advanced<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/p>\n

      In the “Advanced Security Settings for Components” screen that comes up, click the “Owner” tab.<\/p>\n

      In the “Owner” tab, check the “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects tickbox, select “Administrators” and click\u00a0Apply.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Workaround<\/strong> 4:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Remove SQL Server 2005 completely from Control panel<\/p>\n

      Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Microsoft SQL Server 2005<\/p>\n

      In the first dialog, make sure to select the “RELYONDB: Database Engine” radio button.<\/p>\n

      If RELYONDB is the only instance, then select all check boxes & Click Next and Finish to proceed with the uninstall.<\/p>\n

      If there is no other SQL instance, I would go on to clean out all SQL components with the following steps.<\/p>\n

      Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Native client<\/p>\n

      Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Setup support files<\/p>\n
