Causes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Give correct system name and instance name.<\/li>\n
  2. VIA protocol might be enabled and it may be using port 1433.<\/li>\n
  3. SQL Browser service might be stopped\/disabled.<\/li>\n
  4. SQL Server (RELYONDB) service might be stopped\/disabled.<\/li>\n
  5. SQL Server master data might be corrupted.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Workaround 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Open SQL Server Configuration Manager<\/p>\n

    Start | Programs |Microsoft SQL Server 2005|<\/p>\n

    Navigate to: SQL Server Configuration Manager\\SQL Server Network configuration\\Protocols for RELYONDB<\/p>\n

    Right click “VIA” protocol and click disable. [The status of “VIA” protocol should be disabled]<\/p>\n

    Right click “VIA” | Properties | Default Port should be empty.<\/p>\n

    Workaround<\/strong>\u00a02:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    <\/strong>Restart both SQL Server RELYONDB Service & SQL Server Browser services.<\/p>\n

    Workaround<\/strong>\u00a03<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Remove Microsoft SQL Server 2005 completely from Control panel<\/p>\n

    Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Microsoft SQL Server 2005<\/p>\n

    In the first dialog, make sure to select the “RELYONDB: Database Engine” radio button.<\/p>\n

    If RELYONDB is the only instance, then select all check boxes & Click Next and Finish to proceed with the uninstall.<\/p>\n

    If there is no other SQL instance, I would go on to clean out all SQL components with the following steps.<\/p>\n

    Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Native client<\/p>\n

    Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Setup support files<\/p>\n

    Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server VSS writer<\/p>\n

    Delete the following keys in registry:<\/p>\n

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Microsoft SQL Server<\/p>\n

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\MSSQLServer<\/p>\n

    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services<\/p>\n

    and delete all the keys referencing SQL Server.<\/p>\n

    Rename all the SQL Server folders in the computer.<\/p>\n
