Causes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Give correct system name and instance name.<\/li>\n
  2. VIA protocol might be enabled and it may be using port 1433.<\/li>\n
  3. SQL Browser service might be stopped\/disabled.<\/li>\n
  4. SQL Server might be corrupted need to reinstall and required to attach the data files.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Workaround 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Disable “VIA” protocol:<\/p>\n

    Open SQL Server Configuration Manager as Run as Administrator<\/p>\n

    All programs | Microsoft SQL Server 2005| Configuration Tools | SQL Server Configuration Manager | SQL Server Network configuration | Protocols for RELYONDB<\/p>\n

    The status of “VIA” protocol should be disabled |<\/p>\n

    Right click “VIA” | Properties | Default Port should be empty.<\/p>\n

    Workaround<\/strong> 2:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Open SQL Server Configuration Manager as Run as Administrator<\/p>\n

    <\/strong>Restart both SQL Server RELYONDB Service & SQL Server Browser services.<\/p>\n

    All programs | Microsoft SQL Server 2005| Configuration Tools | SQL Server Configuration Manager | SQL Server 2005 Services<\/p>\n

    Right click SQL Server RELYONDB and select Restart<\/p>\n

    Right click\u00a0SQL Server Browser and select Restart<\/p>\n

    Workaround<\/strong> 3:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Are you logged into the machine with an account that is in the Administrators group<\/p>\n

    Please log on to Windows using administrator account. Also, restart Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service from services, and then try to restart SQL Server service again.<\/p>\n

    Workaround<\/strong> 4:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Grant FULL permissions to \u201cSQLServer2005MSSQLUser$machine_name$instance_name\u201d user and\u00a0\u201cSQLServer2005SQLBrowserUser$machine_name\u201d user on SQL server\u00a0 DATA folder.<\/p>\n

    Workaround<\/strong> 5:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Include the logged in User account to Debug programs:<\/p>\n

    Open Group Policy…
    \nStart | Run | Type: gpedit.msc | OK |
    \nNavigate to
    \nComputer Configuration\\Windows Settings\\Security Settings\\Local Policies\\User Rights Assignment\\Debug programs<\/p>\n

    The account through which we are trying to run the setup should be here ( besides the local admin on that machine). Restart the server ( this is mandatory)not work) and ran the setup and it was successful this time.<\/p>\n

    SQL Server 2008 setup needs this privilege to start up the SQL Server process and listen to an event that signals back to setup that SQL Server successfully started.<\/p>\n
