Causes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

This problem may occur if one of the following conditions is true:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The existing instance of SQL Server 2008 is a unique named instance. However, you try to install SQL Server 2005 as the default instance.<\/li>\n
  2. The existing instance of SQL Server 2008 is a named instance, and you use the same name when you try to install SQL Server 2005 as a named instance.<\/li>\n
  3. The named Instance, you are trying to install is already present.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Workaround 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    NOTE :<\/strong>\u00a0In My case SQL INSTANCE \u00a0is “RELYONDB”<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Click on the Start menu, choose Run and type regedit<\/span><\/p>\n

    Navigate to<\/p>\n

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\System\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      1. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Find “MSSQL$RELYONDB” , and delete<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
          \n
        • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\Microsoft SQL Server<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            \n
          1. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Remove “RELYONDB” \u00a0from the REG_MULTI_SZ value named InstalledInstance<\/li>\n
          2. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Delete the subhive named MSSQL.1<\/li>\n
          3. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>Delete the subhive named\u00a0 RELYONDB<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
              \n
            • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\Microsoft SQL Server\\Instance Names\\SQL<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                \n
              1. \u00a0 \u00a0 Delete the value named\u00a0 \u201cRELYONDB\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                  \n
                • Go to c:\\ drive<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                    \n
                  1. \u00a0 \u00a0Delete the folder %ProgramFiles%\\Microsoft SQL Server\\MSSQL.1<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                    Restart the PC.<\/p>\n

                    Use either Windows installer cleanup utility to manually remove all traces of MSSQL on your PC.<\/p>\n

                    Re-run SQL installation<\/p>\n

                    Workaround 2:<\/strong><\/p>\n
