Administrator priviliges is required to install SQL Server.<\/li>\n<li>Windows management instrumentation service might be corrupted.<\/li>\n<li>Components or files related to WMI service might be unregistered or missing.<\/li>\n<li>The main cause of the above error is that there are improper permissions of the DATA and LOG folder of the SQL server 2005.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Workaround 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Make sure that you are running the SQL Server setup as \u201cRun as Administrator\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Workaround<\/strong> 2:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Give Full control permissions to &#8220;EVERYONE&#8221; for [C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft SQL Server]<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Workaround<\/strong> 3:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Modify the registry entry:<\/p>\n<p>Click Start | Run | type regedit | Click OK.<\/p>\n<p>Navigate to:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;HKEY_USERS\\S-1-518\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\User Shell Folders&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Right click on AppData | Click on Modify and type &#8220;%USERPROFILE%\\Application Data&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Click OK.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Workaround<\/strong> 4:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Modify the registry entry:<\/p>\n<p>Click Start | Run | type regedit | Click OK.<\/p>\n<p>Navigate to:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\User Shell Folders&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Right click on AppData | Click on Modify and type &#8220;%USERPROFILE%\\Application Data&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Click OK.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Workaround<\/strong> 5:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p title=\"WmiFix\">Download the attached<strong title=\"WmiFix\">\u00a0<\/strong>file and execute the batch<strong title=\"WmiFix\"> <\/strong>file.<\/p>\n<p>Re-install SQL server express 2005 again.<\/p>\n<p>Download:<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/w4eesf8v26d7l9d\/SqlWmiFix.bat\">SqlWmiFix.bat<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Workaround<\/strong> 6:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Click Start | Run | type regedit | Click OK.<\/p>\n<p>Navigate to:<\/p>\n<p>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Installer\\\u00a0UserData\\S-1-5-18\\Components.<\/p>\n<p>Right-click on\u00a0\u00a0and select &#8220;Permissions&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the &#8220;Permissions for Components&#8221; screen that comes up, click the\u00a0<strong>Advanced<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/p>\n<p>In the &#8220;Advanced Security Settings for Components&#8221; screen that comes up, click the &#8220;Owner&#8221; tab.<\/p>\n<p>In the &#8220;Owner&#8221; tab, check the &#8220;Replace owner on subcontainers and objects tickbox, select &#8220;Administrators&#8221; and click\u00a0<strong>Apply.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"line-height: 24px;\"><strong><strong>Workaround<\/strong> 7:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Remove Microsoft SQL Server 2005 completely from Control panel<\/p>\n<p>Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Microsoft SQL Server 2005<\/p>\n<p>In the first dialog, make sure to select the &#8220;RELYONDB: Database Engine&#8221; radio button.<\/p>\n<p>If RELYONDB is the only instance, then select all check boxes &amp; Click Next and Finish to proceed with the uninstall.<\/p>\n<p>If there is no other SQL instance, I would go on to clean out all SQL components with the following steps.<\/p>\n<p>Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Native client<\/p>\n<p>Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Setup support files<\/p>\n<p>Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server VSS writer<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Error: SQL Server Setup unexpectedly failed.
